50 years for clean mobility – Eberspaecher celebrates in France

Esslingen (Germany) / Saint-Michel (France), 3 September 2026 – Together with Regional Councilor for the Hauts-de-France region, Nelly Janier-Dubry, Member of Parliament for the constituency, Eddy Casterman and further politicians, Eberspaecher Management celebrated the 50th anniversary of its activities in Saint-Michel, France (02830). The site is the oldest subsidiary of the Eberspaecher Group in France. It manufactures and delivers exhaust aftertreatment systems for passenger cars to customers in Europe, South America and South Africa.

“50 years, half a century – from Saint-Michel, you are bringing our systems for clean mobility to the world. Congratulations to this dedicated team for your outstanding performance since 1976,” emphasized Martin Peters, Managing Partner of the Eberspaecher Group. He extended his congratulations on behalf of the family shareholders as well as the whole management team.

1976 to 2026 – From pipes to clean mobility components
Exhaust systems have been manufactured in Saint-Michel since October 30, 1976, to the day – beginning with pipes and mufflers. At that time, Eberspaecher had acquired the muffler factory C.I.A. Hirson (Compagnie Industrielle de l’Aisne, d’Hirson). A few years later, the plant was also integrated into German Neunkirchen subsidiary through a capital merger. In 2002, it became ESES Eberspächer Systèmes d' Echappement S.A.S. and since 2021, the exhaust business activities of the Eberspaecher Group are branded as Purem by Eberspaecher. Over the decades, exhaust technology for clean vehicles has become increasingly important in Europe. This led to the construction of a new facility and development of new areas of expertise – such as NC welding.

Every 30 seconds components from France to the world
Today, the production in Saint-Michel includes components such as mufflers, catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters for passenger cars. Every 30 seconds, a component for clean mobility leaves the plant. Around 200 employees serve international automotive manufacturers not just in France and Europe. From the 10,000 square meter facility, including logistics area, the systems are also delivered to car plants in South America and South Africa. As so-called Leadplant, the team in Saint-Michel also supports recent Purem by Eberspaecher production sites in Turkey as well as Algeria with their expertise.

Dedicated employees with long-term commitment 
During the celebrations, Martin Peters highlighted the company’s exemplary growth and the dedication of its employees over half a century: “Manufacturing has changed over the years – and you have helped shape that change. That is your greatest asset: decades of manufacturing expertise in engineering, production, and logistics. Coupled with a genuine sense of connection to this location – that is truly special.” Martin Peters also awarded a dozen employees for over 30 years in the company: “This demonstrates not just that the long-term thinking of Eberspaecher can pay off, but also the commitment for a family-owned company.”
