Standstill? Not today.

What do buses in the United Arab Emirates and Hungary have in common? Their air-conditioning systems send data to the cloud and issue alerts before any malfunctions occur. With e-connected, fleet operators can monitor their systems remotely – proactively, data-driven, and cost-effectively.

6 June 2026 – An air-conditioning system that doesn’t suddenly break down, but instead reports faults early on, thereby preventing entire bus routes from coming to a standstill? This is made possible by a small device in the vehicle: an embedded single-board computer known as the Gateway. It connects the control unit of the system to Eberspächer’s e-connected web application, collects data, and transmits it to the cloud. This allows fleet operators to identify potential problems early on.

A look at Hungary: e-connected detects a critical rise in temperature on a bus. The supply air temperature in the passenger compartment shoots up from 12 degrees to alarming 30 degrees – far above the target value. The system immediately recognizes that the condenser fan is blocked and can no longer dissipate heat. The automatic warning message provides the diagnosis: “Condenser fan, compartment 1, blocked.” On site, the cause is quickly identified: a foreign object is blocking the fan. After cleaning and checking the electrical connections, the system is up and running again and the temperature stabilizes. 

In Dubai, e-connected prevents a major problem: The system detects a potential refrigerant leak. The automatic alert indicates a leak or a frozen evaporator. The service team responds immediately and inspects the bus. The diagnosis confirms their suspicion: Only three kilograms of refrigerant are circulating in the system, instead of the intended seven. A leak in the thermal expansion valve, a key component of the refrigerant circuit, caused the refrigerant to escape. Thanks to the digital alarm, the team responds immediately, replaces the seal, and refills the system. Without e-connected, the fault would have gone unnoticed with serious consequences such as compressor damage and days of downtime. Instead, it was just a pit stop. 

These examples show that e-connected transforms reactive maintenance into predictive maintenance. Fleet operators can monitor the condition of their systems at all times, respond early to deviations, and avoid unplanned downtime. This reduces downtime, lowers costs, and increases operational reliability.
