At high pressure
When hot water vapor turns into pure hydrogen, more than just a chemical process is set in motion – a new drive for the energy transition is created. And this is exactly where Purem by Eberspächer comes in. In close partnership with the Danish technology company Topsoe, the expert in exhaust technology is opening a new chapter: a further business area in addition to the traditional automotive environment.

20 August 2025 – Purem by Eberspächer is tapping into new business areas on the foundation of existing core competencies. With the development and production of pressure vessels for the principle of high-temperature electrolysis, the Esslingen-based company is breaking new ground – and at the same time making a real contribution to the future of hydrogen. Since given, the fundamental challenge of using hydrogen as an energy source of the future is its sufficient availability.
PIONEERING SPIRIT UNDER HIGH PRESSURE
It all started with a design - ambitious, but still a long way from industrial reality. In June, the first two pressure vessels from the Neunkirchen plant were handed over to the customer. What lies in between? A hurdle race of ideas, development loops, challenges – and above all collaboration. More than 15 heads in the core team and many other colleagues in interdisciplinary exchanges in Esslingen and Neunkirchen worked together to weld, test and train. After all, anyone entering new territory cannot rely on old patterns. Instead, you need courage, perseverance and staying power to surpass yourself.

TEAMWORK FOR TRANSFORMATION

The success of this project is not an individual achievement, but the result of cross-departmental networking. Development, production, quality assurance, logistics, purchasing – everyone put in the effort. In Neunkirchen, the experts combine global strategy and local know-how to create new manufacturing expertise. The first two pressure vessels were formally presented at the beginning of June – in the presence of Topsoe management and Saarland Minister of Economic Affairs Jürgen Barke. The first milestone has thus been reached, with more to follow: The industrialization of the pressure vessels is planned for the end of 2025 and the start of series production for 2026.
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
“We are positioning ourselves for the future,” emphasizes Benjamin Brenkel, Executive Vice President Business Unit Europe. The entry into the hydrogen market is more than just a business model. It is proof of the Group's innovative strength and underlines its willingness to leave the beaten track, develop new skills and surpass itself as a team. This is how the future is created – not on paper, but through real work.
